Let's Get Started
Sustainability in Composite Waterproofing
Hulk Systems approaches sustainability from a building performance perspective: a waterproofing system that fails prematurely creates waste — wasted materials, wasted labour, and the environmental cost of remediation. The Hulk composite system is designed to perform for the life of the structure, reducing the frequency and impact of repair cycles over the building’s lifetime. Durable waterproofing is inherently more sustainable than systems that require replacement.
Low-VOC and Zero-VOC Formulations
Several Hulk Systems products are formulated with zero or low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, including MGVSS, which is a 100% solids, zero-VOC epoxy barrier. Low-VOC waterproofing reduces airborne emissions during application — important for indoor applications, occupied buildings, and projects where environmental certification is a requirement. Product-specific VOC content is listed on each technical data sheet, available on the Resources page.
ICF Construction and Energy Efficiency
A significant portion of Hulk Systems’ waterproofing work is on Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) structures. ICF construction is inherently energy-efficient — the continuous foam insulation and thermal mass of the concrete wall assembly dramatically reduces building heating and cooling loads compared to traditional framing. By specializing in ICF waterproofing, Hulk Systems is aligned with one of the most energy-efficient building methods available in the Canadian construction market.
Reducing Construction Waste
Liquid-applied composite waterproofing systems generate less waste than sheet membrane alternatives. There are no offcuts, no backing paper, and no packaging waste from roll goods. Single-component products like Hulk STPE arrive ready to apply, eliminating mixing waste and reducing the chance of application errors that lead to material waste. For large projects, Hulk Systems works with applicators to right-size material orders to minimize unused product.
Sustainable Waterproofing Standards in Canada
Canadian building codes and green building programs — including LEED Canada, the National Energy Code for Buildings, and programs like BC Energy Step Code — increasingly require documentation of the environmental performance of building envelope products. Hulk Systems supports specifiers working toward these certifications by providing environmental product data, VOC content documentation, and product performance specifications on request.
Long-Term Value Over Short-Term Cost
Sustainable building decisions are often long-term decisions. A waterproofing system that costs slightly more upfront but performs reliably for 30 years is a better environmental and financial decision than a lower-cost system that requires remediation within a decade. Hulk composite waterproofing is positioned as a premium, performance-first product — and that premium pays back over the life of the structure through reduced maintenance, fewer failures, and lower lifecycle cost.
Contact Hulk Systems About Sustainable Specifications
